I’ve just “graduated” from a Nikon J1 (first generation) to a NIkon D3300, mainly because there is no dedicated macro lens available for the J1. I did get some decent shots with the J1’s kit lens (10-30mm) and I also have a 30-100mm zoom. The D3300 comes with an 18-55mm lens which is okay for closeup-macro BUT just yesterday I decided to add a 50mm prime lens… and so far I’m loving it! It really provides those nice blurred backgrounds (bokeh). Of course the downside is that after using a zoom lens for oh, about 20 years I have to get used to moving myself instead of the lens,LOL.
I’m looking forward to experimenting with the grasses’ seed heads when they appear later this year.
