We are considering still life photography in the second term of an evening course in photography – a huge subject which we can only touch on as the course aims to initiate us in a wide range of photographic possibilities.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines this as: ‘..A painting or drawing of an arrangement of objects, typically including fruit and flowers and objects contrasting with these in texture, such as bowls and glassware..’.
I had to take examples to class and so decided to explore a few ideas: Christmassy ideas which might become cards, traditional fruit and vegetable still life paintings, glass and shadows, and minimal light. Wow!
So what makes an interesting Christmas Card?
Bright light is not good – perhaps even a dark background? Or candlelight?
A splash of gold?
